Who is Azul Towers?
“The thing about Azul is that you can’t put her in a box, and in the end that just means she paves her own space.” -Q
An immigrant who came from nothing but a hardworking family and a dream.
Azul Martinez was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, and spent her early years in a modest home within one of the city’s most impoverished neighborhoods. Her mother, deeply rooted in her love for Mexico, once vowed never to leave… until she met and fell in love with a U.S. Marine. This pivotal change brought Azul to the United States, where her journey of resilience and creative discovery began.
Azul initially attended school in Spanish-only classes, but driven by a deep curiosity and determination, she taught herself English by borrowing books and movies from the local library. Soon, she began writing her own stories and poems, sharing them with classmates and discovering her passion for self-expression through both language and music. Creative expression quickly became her refuge and voice.
From a young age, Azul faced symptoms of depression, a struggle that became devastatingly acute at age 17 when she lost her younger sister, Evelyn (affectionately known as Baby E) in a tragic car accident that also left Azul and her mother temporarily wheelchair-bound. The aftermath was life-altering. Grappling with immense grief, Azul was diagnosed with severe depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Through this darkness, she found solace in faith and music, turning to songwriting as a way to process pain and hold onto hope.
Her debut album, THE BEGINNING, captures the emotional complexity of navigating life with mental health challenges. It serves as a testament to resilience, healing, and self-discovery. During her recovery, Azul returned to school: first in a wheelchair, then with a walker, and eventually with a cane. She earned her Associate Degree while still completing high school.
In college, Azul fronted two rock bands, The Zodiacs and Perception, further honing her voice and stage presence. Her talents extended into acting, landing key roles such as the supporting lead in the CW series DOLOS, and portraying the Spirit of Water in the celebrated local production VIVA! El Paso.
Azul earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Theatre, and in 2024, she began law school, seeking to combine her creative and intellectual passions with advocacy work. Her second album, Blood on My Hands(released March 2025), marked a bold evolution in her artistry, reflecting deep emotional growth and a fearless exploration of genre and sound.
With each project, Azul aims to bridge hearts through storytelling, guiding listeners through emotional landscapes they may not have explored otherwise. Through her music, she hopes to inspire healing, connection, and courage, reminding others that beauty can rise from even the darkest places.
